This post contains an actual listing on eBay for a folding tent camper trailer for a motorcycle that was so well written and clever, and included a fabulous video, that the ad is displayed here! At the time of the listing, July 5, 2009, there was one bid for $643. and the reserve was not met. What that means is that the owner has set a minimum bid amount, and if your bid for this motorcycle folding camping trailer is less than the minimum reserve, the sale will not be completed. The text below was actually written by the seller. (The motorcycle camper has since sold – see the comments below.) Some of the folding motorcycle camper listing (the seller’s telephone number) has been edited out, because this post will be hanging around on the internet long after the sale of this incredible folding motorcycle tent camper.

Motorcycle Folding Tent Trailer Camper – as described by the sellers in an eBay listing – some editing here, for the most part it’s the original text – please view the eBay listing for the original listing as written by the seller:

The BunkHouse Motorcycle Camper Travel Trailer – King-Sized Luxury

Compact Motorcycle Tent Trailer Tows Easily – Stores In a Small Space When You Aren’t Using It.

Get In The Action!

When you go to a motorcycle rally or similar event, you want to be out in nature and in the middle of the action, not some stuffy motel room!

If you’re like me, you want to ride your BIKE to the rally, not tow it in a trailer like you’re hauling some prized pig to the county fair.

I love camping events – because the daytime stuff is fun, but what I really love is the nightlife – the chance to catch-up with old friends and meet new ones around the campfire.

When I was younger I used to love camping so much I would camp just about anywhere – rolling out my sleeping bag on a thin pad on the ground under the stars… but that’s the single-guy lifestyle. If you’ve got a lady in your life, or if you are a lady yourself, or if you’re just a guy whose been around enough to figure comfort beats discomfort most of the time, then you’ll love camping at events in this Bunkhouse trailer.

NOT FOR THOSE WHO “ENJOY ROUGHING IT” (You’ll want the luxury of a motorcycle folding tent trailer.)

When my bones started to get a little creaky somehow the hobo thing of sleeping under the stars or on the cold, hard earth just wasn’t appealing to me anymore…. Maybe it was several exeperiences dealing with muddy weekends sleeping on the floor of a dome tent, grime all over everything, that pushed me over the edge.

Not all compact motorcycle trailers are created equal. Not by a long shot – and the Bunkhouse is widely acknowledged to be one of the roomiest, comfiest, and easy-towing trailers out there.

Some of the motorcycle trailers out there look like they were designed by and made by bachelors – or at least guys who couldn’t get their girls to come along for a camping weekend.

That’s why there is such a price spread on these sought-after trailers. Some of the really pricey models are so elaborate you might be sketchy about towing them with a bike – but not with the Bunkhouse.

->Only weighs about 325 pounds – easy towing and easy to lift the tongue and maneuver it by hand.

->Heavy-duty fiberglass body – at the edge it’s nearly 1/4″ thick

->Large storage area (26 cubic foot) easily accessed with camper set up or closed.

->Includes an ice-chest case (and the ice-chest, too)

->Rear light bar with 5 bright running-lights on the back, and 2 on each side, giving you incredible visibility on the road – plus the deluxe light kit just looks… deluxe!

->Independent suspension on each wheel.

->Spare wheel and tire stowed in a recessed area in the payload bottom.

->Fiberglass body with a smooth gel-coat finish. It has a few scuffs on the fenders but the permanent black finish still looks incredible!

->Nice sculpted fenders over the wheels, and mud flaps too!

->Side marker lights give you lots of light visibility from all angles.

->Front snap on padded “bra” made from heavy black vinyl. Prevents road gravel from dinging the fiberglass shell.

->Heavy duty matching black vinyl cover for cooler

->Air-springs help lift payload-cover and hold it open when you are camped

->4 heavy-duty jacks at each corner make leveling easy for rock-solid stability.

->Has bubble-levels on one side and on the back.

->Payload compartment locks with a key.

->Cover has large zipper pocket that holds lawn chairs ect.

->Spare wheel and tire in recessed compatment.

->Huge king sized bed 72” wide and 84” wide

->You’ll be off the ground in your comfy king-size bed, slithery things won’t be crawling into your sleeping bag with you.

->Looks sharp! because it’s not some boxy-thing. The sleak heavy-duty fiberglass shell really looks nice.

We always had people asking us about our tent trailer wherever we set it up. The inventive features and slick fiberglass shell with lights all around and the ice-chest on the tongue always got people curious. When they saw the whole thing set-up they were thrilled!

Watch the 10-minute video to see us set-up and take-down the actual trailer for sale here. You’ll get a realistic idea of how it works.

Note: the current models of the trailer are viewable at

The Facts Of Life With This Bunkhouse Trailer

Like every tent I have ever set-up, this one has it’s quirks.

This is an older model, but the engineering is solid. It’s not some funky old model that died because it wasn’t good. The fiberglass trailer body and chassis is the same one used on Bunkhouse trailers today. Where this trailer differs is in the tent design.

Bunkhouse was an innovator in lightweight tent trailers for motorcycle towing. The Bunkhouse design is emulated by many manufacturers of motorcycle tent trailers because it is functional, lightweight and roomy.

Tent portion of this trailer is in three parts:

1. The sleeping tent which pops open in about 10 seconds. It’s easy for one person to set-up.

2. The canopy, which consists of a heavy-duty vinyl awning which zips to the crest of the sleeping tent. The canopy is cantilevered out from the corners of the bed platform on two u-shaped poles. The canopy can be left in place while traveling but it’s quite tricky for one person, with no help, to open the tent with the canopy zipped to the crest. The solution is to either have help or unzip the awning from the crest of the tent.

3. The vestibule which zips and snaps to the canopy and sleeping tent, joining all the parts together for a bug-proof and comfortable tent area big enough to fit some camp chairs in. If just stopping for the night or if the weather is nice you might not want to put it on, because there is a lot of zipping to be done.

I don’t think it’s practical to travel with the vestibule zipped to the sleeping tent and awning – but I’ve never tried because it’s a lot of material to handle when setting-up or packing up. Your own experience might be different.

The fabric all matches for everything, heavy-duty waterproof vinyl for the top and brown nylon for the sides. The awning and vestibule were sold as accessories when this trailer was new in 1994.

It’s important for you to understand that the poles these trailer companies use are not super-heavy-duty. They are plenty-strong but if you abuse them they will bend and if they bend too far the sliding ones won’t slide well. If bend really far a poll could develop an actual kink and then you’ll have to repair or replace it.

As it is lifting the bed to open the trailer requires “oomph” – it’s not hard but you when you do it you’ll understand why the manufacturer works so hard at balancing strength with light-weight.

The way to not mess-up the tubular poles is to follow the procedure shown in our video so they don’t get tweaked, twisted, bent, or broken. Learn not to strain the supports when you set-up and take-down the tent and you will have a lot of satisfaction. Get sloppy and you’ll probably end-up distorting a pole or two and have to kick yourself for your carelessness.

When I bought this trailer the previous owner had lent it to a friend who was clueless and bent some of the poles. I am extremely handy however and I repaired them in such a way that they are stronger than if you bought new ones from the factory – which is an expensive repair because the poles are long u-shaped supports which are so large shipping costs would be very high.

The design of this trailer is balanced for light-weight, not super-duty strength, like a lot of RV stuff in fact. Treat the trailer with a gentle touch and you’ll enjoy it a lot.

Last time I checked all the lights on the back and the running lights worked. I think one of the side lights might have been giving me trouble. I towed this with a car, not a bike so it’s set up with a 6-prong round wiring harness. You can switch it to whatever wiring harness you like if you need to – an easy project.

The tenting material of the trailer has had gentle wear. There are no holes I’m aware of but around the edges where it attaches to the bed there are some wear spots. There is discoloration of the heavy-duty waterproof vinyl roofing portions here and there. It’s not ugly, just the kind of stuff tents pick up when you use them in real camping situations.

Basically, the trailer is broken-in and has many more years of life left if you take care of it. When the time comes if you use it heavily or damage it somehow you can repair or replace the canvas, but for now it’s perfectly functional and will keep you dry and prevent bugs from biting you while you sleep.

You may want to invest in a small trailer-light set compatible with your vehicle – in the event that your vehicle doesn’t work right-away with this trailer’s wiring you can hook-up the light set (less than $50) and get it home safely without getting stopped for lighting problems. Wiring with trailers is always a funky thing – the best plan is to have a plan for something not working.
